Cristián Tamblay
Cristián Tamblay is a Chilean drummer, composer, and producer whose sound refuses to stay in one lane. Rooted in jazz but uent in fusion, funk, Latin, R&B, rock, and contemporary classical, he brings a rare combination of technical depth and musical storytelling to everything he touches.
Tamblay picked up the sticks at age three and never looked back. Growing up in Chile, early exposure to local rock and pop gave way to a love of jazz, sparked by the music of Chick Corea — an in uence that would shape his playing for years to come.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition and Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying under acclaimed drummers such as Billy Kilson and Dave DiCenso. He later pursued his Master of Music in Jazz Drum Set Performance at New York University, where he worked with legends Lenny White, Billy Drummond, Tony Moreno and Ari Hoenig.
Tamblay is perhaps best known for his pioneering fusion of drum set and classical string quartet. His virtual collaborations with the UK’s Carducci String Quartet — adding original drum arrangements to works by Shostakovich, Philip Glass, and Béla Bartók — produced a major in uence in both the jazz and classical worlds.
His discography includes a six-track EP Exordium (2021), Revolutions featuring former Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian (2021), jazz ballad Sergio (2022), and his self-titled album (2024), which received coverage in All About Jazz.
Based in New York City, Tamblay continues to perform, record, and collaborate with world-class musicians — always pushing the boundaries of what a drummer can be.
